Attribution

RIDGELY 3D is built on the work of open data communities and open-source projects. The sources below make our terrain tiles possible.

Map data

OpenStreetMap

Place names, roads, water, and base geography are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Map tiles

OpenTopoMap

Topographic map tiles rendered by OpenTopoMap, licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0.

Elevation data

Mapterhorn terrain tiles

Global heightmaps are read from Mapterhorn's open Terrarium-encoded terrain tiles, which combine public elevation datasets such as Copernicus GLO-30 and NASA SRTM.

Environment Agency LIDAR (UK)

Within England, higher-resolution detail comes from the Environment Agency LIDAR Composite Digital Terrain Model (1 m), used under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Greenery, water & features

Overpass API

Woodland, water and other landcover used to colour the tiles is queried from OpenStreetMap through public Overpass API mirrors.

Geocoding & search

Nominatim

Location search is powered by Nominatim, a geocoder built on OpenStreetMap data.

Libraries

Leaflet

Interactive maps are rendered with Leaflet, an open-source JavaScript mapping library (BSD-2-Clause).

three.js

The 3D terrain preview is built with three.js (MIT).

proj4js & geotiff.js

British National Grid conversion and reading of LIDAR GeoTIFF data use proj4js (MIT) and geotiff.js (MIT).
